Clinical Advisor - MedTechVIC

About the Job
Life-changing new medical and enabling technologies designed alongside the people who need them will be created by MedTechVIC, a ground-breaking initiative by Swinburne University of Technology. Led by Swinburne, and working closely with industry and community partners, MedTechVIC will bring people living with disabilities together with world-leading technology and experts in design, digitalisation, health and manufacturing to create innovative tailor-made medical and assistive devices. Swinburne has received a $6.7 million boost from the Victorian Government to fund this first-of-its-kind hub. To support the co-creation of enabling and assistive technologies, the delivery of programs and processes and the development of clinicians with product development skills, Swinburne University of Technology will be building a new facility where this work can be undertaken. There will also be applied research and development projects that will span design, AR/VR, digital manufacturing and clinical activities.

A number of Allied Health Clinician - Research and Innovation Advisor fractional positions (for up to 0.8 FTE by negotiation) are available. The purpose of these roles is to empower allied health professionals to step into research and provide their expertise to user-centered co-creation of assistive technology solutions. They will be supported in developing or expanding their research skills by working within a multidisciplinary team including engineers, designers, industry partners and clinicians from other disciplines. The allied health advisors will be able to embed a research culture into their health care environments to share and build knowledge and expertise in their routine. These roles are integral to innovation in assistive technologies with real potential for improving the lives of people living with disability and will report to the Department Chair of Health and Medical Sciences at Swinburne.

About you
To be successful in the role, you will have:
• A degree in a relevant field such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Nursing or Rehabilitation Engineering
• Demonstrated experience in the provision of quality administrative and support services within a demanding environment.
• Proven ability to consult and liaise with internal and external stakeholders and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
• Demonstrated ability to solve problems including adapting work practices.

Key Responsibilities
• Provide expert advice within a research team and co-design environment to inform rational approaches to development of assistive technologies
• Work with end users of enabling technologies to ensure that they are at the heart of design and implementation.
• To facilitate inclusive co-creation of assistive technologies with people living with disability
• Work with the LivingLab Technical Manager to ensure appropriate equipment and facilities are available for projects
• Pro?actively build and develop strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Liaise effectively with internal and external stakeholders and collaborate providing clear advice and options.
