About the Role
Swinburne University has an ambitious goal of growth in research performance and impact, as set out in the 2025 University strategy to deliver Research with Impact. As part of this agenda, the University has a key objective to undertake quality and impactful research supported by sustainable research funding. The Major Research Projects & Awards Manager is a new integral role to this program of work.

The Major Research Projects & Awards Manager will ensure the effective delivery of project management and operations support for a defined portfolio of high value, complex, reputationally important, multi-party research awards. This portfolio includes ARC Centres of Excellence, ARC Industrial Transformation Program, Australian Government funded projects including the Modern Manufacturing Initiative, Cooperative Research Centres, State Government projects such as Breakthrough Victoria, and other strategically important industry projects and consortia.

In this role you will provide tailored project management advice, direction and support for the establishment, monitoring, reporting and post award administration of major research projects. You will also be expected to deliver expert advice and recommendations for related business decision-making.

Reporting to the Manager, Research Contracts and Grants Management in Swinburne Research Services, the position requires significant initiative, ability to problem solve complex issues and strong relationship management skills.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will have:
  • Substantial experience in complex program or research management, including the design, implementation and management budgets, timelines, workflows, reporting and evaluation frameworks.
  • Highly developed planning and organisational skills with experience in establishing priorities, allocating resources and meeting deadlines.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, including the provision of strategic advice, reporting and consulting
  • Relationship management and consultation skills including the ability to influence and negotiate with a variety of stakeholders.

Qualifications
  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
  • Preferably, project management qualification(s).
