About the Service

Our National Immigration Support Service (NISS) provides a broad range of support to people seeking asylum and Refugees who are living in the Australian community.

About the role

The purpose of the Cultural Support worker- NISS is to provide responsive and tailored support services to clients to support them to meet identified goals and address their barriers and vulnerabilities to achieve independence.

This position is being offered as a Permanent full-time position based at our Parramatta office. (Male only) 

Responsibilities

  • Proactively work with clients towards supporting meaningful engagement.
  • Assist clients to progress towards their own personal development goals.
  • Provide high quality service delivery which will enable clients to connect meaningfully to the community and achieve their goals.
  • Plan with the individual to create program and personal goals.

 

 Skills & Experience

  • Certificate III in Community Welfare, or similar, or willingness to complete this within first 2 years of employment
  • Experience working with Refugees and/or Asylum Seekers or knowledge in this area of support
  • Ability to develop a positive relationship with service users and to support their Individual Care Plan
  • Commitment to the values of dignity, respect, inclusion, empowerment, confidentiality and strength-based practice
  • Ability to maintain service user privacy and confidentiality
  • Ability to use initiative and to work both individually in supporting service users and as part of a team
  • Proactively work with clients towards supporting meaningful engagement
  • Assist clients to progress towards their own personal development goals
  • Ability client safety and wellbeing through the timely notification of incident reports and following the identified risk assessment protocols and safety plans
  • each shift
  • Provide clients with an opportunity to collaborate and inform practice
  • Provide balanced and objective information to assist clients to understand the problem, alternatives and/or solutions
  • Ability to manage clients with complex physical and mental health issues
  • Ensure the handover notes and CIRTS database is up to date with all required information
  • A current unrestricted Drivers Licence

  
Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
