About the Role

As a Disability Support Worker, you will be dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of individuals in your local community. We are looking for candidates that are located in and available to work in Redcliffe, Morayfield and surrounding local areas.  We have casual positions available with flexible hours where you will provide active, person centred support to people with disabilities. We have positions available to work across our Lifestyle, and Supported Independent Living (SIL) programs. You will be required to provide transportation in your own vehicle, so a valid Australian Drivers Licence and your own registered and insured vehicle is a requirement. As part of providing community access supports you will also spend time with clients assisting them in utilising public transport.

Working in our Lifestyles program you will be available to work day shifts from 8am to 3pm and afternoon/evening shifts from 3pm to 10pm throughout the week. The person we support is located in Redcliffe, you will maintain contact with internal and external stakeholders to ensure an excellent level of care is provided. Candidates with experience working in mental health will be highly regarded.

Our SIL house is located in Morayfield where you will be supporting two individuals. We have shifts available working Monday to Sunday, 9am to 5pm on day shift and sleepover shifts from 5pm to 9am. You will be experienced in facilitating Positive Behaviours, and candidates with experience in Alcohol and Other Drugs are encouraged to apply. You will provide support with daily living tasks as well as community access a few days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow person-centred support plans and behaviour support plans respectfully
  • Participate in community activities and encourage clients to perform daily living tasks
  • Track and document an individual’s progress through thorough record-keeping
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with our clients and their families
  • Commitment to a 24/7 roster, including sleepover shifts & weekends

Skills & Experience

  • Qualifications in Disability and/or previous industry experience will be highly regarded but not a necessity
  • Previous experience working in Disability and/or Alcohol and Other Drugs is desirable
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Experience in managing challenging behaviours is desired
  • Proactive and energetic approach to providing support
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence and own reliable vehicle

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.

To be considered for and appointed to a position at Life Without Barriers, you must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with a minimum of two (2) doses or hold a valid medical exemption certificate, in accordance with Life Without Barriers Employee COVID-19 Vaccination Policy. You will be required to provide evidence of your vaccination status during the recruitment process.
