Our National Immigration Support Service (NISS) offers comprehensive assistance to individuals seeking asylum and refugees residing within the Australian community. 

Navigating the journey toward stability in Australia, as an asylum seeker or refugee, is fraught with challenges. About the Role 

A new opportunity has become available for a Senior Clinician to join our dedicated SSRSS team. This pivotal role provides both clinical leadership in service delivery and expert clinical supervision to our team of clinicians.  As a key figure, you will lead the Clinical Assessment and Coordination Team (CACT), ensuring rigorous clinical oversight across all assessments and care plans. 

This full-time max-term (2 years) position offers the flexibility to be based in Sunshine or Dandenong (VIC) or Parramatta (NSW), with options for both office and home-based work arrangements, accommodating a balanced work-life integration while contributing to a vital cause. A Tool of Trade Vehicle, including fuel card, will be allocated to the successful candidate as frequent travel to each of these locations is required. 

 

About You 

With a strong background as a forensic or clinical psychologist, you possess the qualifications and experience necessary to offer unparalleled clinical supervision and line management. Your credentials will include at least 5 years of post-graduate experience, underscoring your deep understanding and proficiency in your area of specialisation. 

As a senior leader, you will guide our team of specialists toward delivering the highest standard of clinical services. Your ability to equip clients with essential coping mechanisms will facilitate their navigation through significant life transitions, mitigating challenges and promoting a seamless adjustment process. 

Leveraging your extensive practitioner knowledge, you will oversee clinical case management, employing outcome-oriented therapeutic approaches. Your dedication will be instrumental in enabling clients to achieve substantial enhancements in their mental health and wellbeing.

 

Key Responsibilities?? 

 

  • Oversee a team of three Clinicians who will provide clinical support to the clients within the NISS program. 
  • Participate in decision making regarding intake, fortnightly clinics & allocation of clients.  
  • Consult and liaise with clients, hospital and community staff, carers/family members, and relevant agencies and other government departments, as appropriate, in relation to the client’s engagement, assessment, and treatment. 
  • Exercise independent clinical judgment concerning the selection and application of principles, methods, and techniques of clinical assessment and/or treatment.  
  • Develop & deliver group psycho-educational and therapy programs, where appropriate using established programs with adaptive utilisation of empirically derived clinical principles. 
  • Undertake assessments of clients’ cognitive and learning abilities, living skills, emotional and mental health status, and behavioural profile. 
  • Provide clinical leadership in clinical service provision within LWB as well as clinical supervision to clinicians.  
  • Support and promote the work of Life Without Barriers, maintaining a services free of judgement by skilled and dedicated staff and deliver the services people are entitled to receive under Australian law.

Skills & Experience 

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or Social Work and current registration or eligibility for registration with the professional body or Psychology board of Australia to practice as a Registered Psychologist.  
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical services in a mental health, OOHC disability or relevant setting.  
  • Demonstrated advanced clinical skills in formal and informal assessment of clients. 
  • Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and support to a multidisciplinary team and assist the team in achieving objectives, including clinical quality improvement strategies. 
  • Effective time management and organisational skills.  
  • Demonstrated experience in the provision of clinical supervision.  
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication skills.  
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work under pressure. 
  • Experience working with people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds (desirable)  
  • Experience working in a culturally sensitive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and a willingness to work and train in culturally appropriate approaches. 
  • Current Driver Licence.  

 

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
