About the Role 
The Manager of Defence Research Grants is responsible for effectively managing and administering the portfolio of grants from the Defence domain and other government and defence industry funding opportunities across the University. In this role, the incumbent will oversee service support and resource allocation throughout all stages of the grant lifecycle, ensuring that all pre and post-award grant administration functions within the portfolio are completed effectively and efficiently. Additionally, the Manager will be responsible for managing key stakeholder relationships relevant to the portfolio, both externally and internally.

The Manager will actively contribute to the development and implementation of improvements to research grant administration systems and processes, aiming to provide high-quality, streamlined service and support for researchers and relevant business units. They will also participate in the development and deployment of researcher development activities, driving initiatives specifically related to their portfolio. Furthermore, the Manager will assist researchers in selecting appropriate grants relevant to their career stage and successfully managing their funded projects.

Collaboration is key in this role, as the Manager will work closely with the Research Grants and Contracts team, as well as across Research Services, Schools, Centres, and Research Institutes. Reporting to the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Chief of Defence Innovation, the Manager of Defence Research Grants plays a crucial role in supporting and advancing research activities within the University.

The successful candidate will need to be eligible to obtain a security clearance. Further details regarding this role can be found in the attached position description. 

About You  
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities: 
  • Demonstrated experience in reviewing, advising on and assisting in the development of research funding applications, preferably for Defence related funding opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to provide high quality advice on post-award grant issues, including the interpretation and review of complex documentation such as funding guidelines and agreements, and the accurate interpretation and application of policies, procedures and guidelines, preferably for Defence related grant awards  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to draft correspondence, reports, guidelines and information guides, and convey complex information or strategic advice to a high level of clarity
  • An ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a variety of key stakeholders including external funding bodies, researchers and research leadership

Qualifications
  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
