About Science, Engineering and Health

The College comprises four Schools delivering a broad range of programs in Science, Engineering, Health (SEH) and Technology at certificate, bachelor, masters and PhD levels. Many programs articulate between vocational and higher education, creating pathways for further study. There is a vibrant research community attracting funding from a range of government and industry sources. The College has an annual income of approximately $550 million and employs over 1,400 staff providing on and offshore programs to approximately 30,000 students.

The College is research intensive with many disciplines in top 100 in the world and responsible for around 60% of university research output. The College houses a range of strategic research facilities including Advanced Manufacturing Precinct, Micro Nano Research Facility, Microscopy and Micronanalysis Research Facility, Food Science and Technology Pilot Plant, and a number of ARC Centres of Excellence and Industry Transformation Hubs. Over 1200 PhD research students in the College and major research partnerships internationally with PhD research nodes in India, Vietnam, Europe.

RMIT University is a Bronze Award Athena SWAN member and the College of Science, Engineering and Health is central to driving improvements in gender equality, diversity and inclusion, particularly in the Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medicine (STEMM) disciplines. 

About you

As the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research and Innovation you will be a critical member of the College Executive team, supporting the Deputy Vice-Chancellor SEH & Vice President Digital Innovation and will provide leadership for the Colleges’ research and innovation strategy development and implementation.

In this position you will work to change the way we drive research and innovation across the College and disciplines by sponsoring initiatives that support RMITs research and innovation aspirations. In this role you will lead the development of new research partnerships, research centres and student opportunities both onshore and offshore and work to implement the University’s research strategy and research translation culture across the University.

The key accountabilities as the Associate Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Innovation are:

  • Driving strategic leadership in research and innovation at scale and providing leadership in STEMM related interdisciplinary research.
  • Leading research in collaboration with industry.
  • Leading the engagement, development and implementation of research training, strategy and policy. Contributing to the University's 2020 and 21/25 and future strategic plans with a focus on Research & Innovation.
  • Leading key research infrastructure investment and College research development programs offshore.
  • Provision of advice to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor & Vice-President regarding research opportunities for the College.
  • Remaining at the forefront of global research and best practice, making functional contributions to advancing scholarship and practice, enhancing graduate researcher experience and creating an environment where high quality research is celebrated.

Qualifications
This position requires PhD in a discipline relevant to the College
