About the opportunity

This role is responsible for the provision of early intervention and prevention advice and support, casework and case management to families, children and young people who are at risk of entering or escalating in the child protection system.

This is a permanent part time role working 15 hours a week based in our lovely office in Coffs Harbour NSW.

This is an Aboriginal Identified role, having an understanding of your local community and key Aboriginal stakeholders in your community is essential.


Responsibilities:
  • Provide early intervention and prevention advice and support, casework and case management services to families with complex needs in the Family Support program in accordance with the Service Provision Guidelines and Program Model.
  • Provide planning support and structure for the safety of children and young people and immediately take appropriate action in line with Uniting Communities policies and the Mandatory Reporting Guidelines where the safety of the child or young person is at risk.
  • Assess families’ strength and needs using Uniting’s Early Intervention Assessment Tool. Assist families to formulate goals that are child focused and address the safety and well-being of children.
  • Support parents/carers to develop their skills, utilising role modelling and teaching strategies as appropriate; utilising a home visiting or by facilitating parenting groups/playgroups.
  • Be available to provide services to families, children and young people at times and in locations that are most suitable to their needs including occasional evenings and before school.
  • Actively participate in relevant initiatives to support the service and its service users.



About You

  • Bachelor qualification in social work, social sciences or equivalent industry experience.
  • Interpersonal skills appropriate for engaging with people from traumatised backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of child protection issues and the ability to identify and address these issues with families when required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting children and families, particularly in Regional and Aboriginal communities.
  • Demonstrated ability ability to build and maintain positive, honest and productive relationships with families.
  • Understanding of the principles of early intervention and the importance of children’s early years on later outcomes.
  • Ability to effectively tach parenting skill to people accessing early intervention services.  Proven computer skills including word processing, accessing emails and internet and the willingness to be trained in a data collection system.
  • Current drivers licence and willingness to transport families.
