RMIT Europe, based in Barcelona is a coordinating centre for extending RMIT University's international engagement, and strategically growing our collaborative research and mobility activity in Europe. About the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2)
The mission of the Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is to achieve the highest level of scientific and technological excellence in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Its research lines focus on the newly-discovered physical and chemical properties that arise from the behavior of matter at the nanoscale. ICN2 has been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Center of Excellence distinction for two consecutive periods (2014-2018 and 2018-2022). ICN2 comprises 18 Research Groups, 7 Technical Development and Support Units and Facilities, and 2 Research Platforms, covering different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology.
Description of Group of Professor Pablo Ordejon:
The Theory and Simulation Group develops efficient methods for atomistic simulations in nanostructured systems, which can fully exploit modern computer multiprocessor architectures, and applies them to selected problems in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology
About the role:
The Postdoctoral Researcher:
The position will be embedded in the group of Prof Pablo Ordejon at ICN2, working in close collaboration with the group of Prof Ivan Cole at RMIT in Melbourne where the postdoctoral researcher is expected to spend at least six months over the course of the project. The role will also work in collaboration with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
About You
As Postdoctoral Researcher, you will come with a proven track record of high quality, first author research publications in high impact or leading journals and proficiency in developing molecular modelling for materials. Ideally you will have an interest in and the potential to design and code complex software platforms.
Beneficial to the role will be your understanding of the physics and chemistry of materials and environmental reactions and your ability to undertake scientific research and development in research programs. Key to the role will be your ability to clearly communicate research results, concepts and knowledge and to show initiative in research and problem solving.
Qualifications/requirements
PhD in mathematics, chemistry, electrochemistry, physics, materials or a related field
High level proficiency in English with some ability in Spanish beneficial.
Eligible to legally work in Spain
Ability to travel to Melbourne (Australia) for a stay of minimum six months
